work one's way up

‘Dancing’ Champ Melissa Rycroft: The One Thing Tonight’s Winner Will Need“My feet are still rebelling about high heels,” she told ABC News with a laugh. “I was wearing, like, five-inchers and I’m working my way up. I had a herniated disk in my neck this time. At the ripe old age of 30 my body was falling apart. I’m so not jealous [of the competitors tonight]. I don’t want to be back out there.”

今回扱うのはwork one’s way upという表現です。これは「(苦労して)上[頂点]へ進む」という意味です。(『ジーニアス英和辞典 第4版』大修館書店)確認のため英英でも調べてみると、”to make progress in a process or structure:”とありました。(Cambridge Dictionaries Online
頂点にいく為には、やはり努力が必要なのですね。(Jakie)
