Blooming field of moss phlox creates colorful 'carpet'

CHICHIBU, Saitama -- Fields of moss phlox and other flowers are in full bloom at Hitsujiyama Park here, drawing crowds of visitors looking to see a brilliant show of white, purple and pink.
"The flowers should be in bloom through the 'Golden Week' holiday and beyond," said a representative of the Chichibu tourism board.
The hills of flowers stretch over about 17,600 square meters. There are around 400,000 flowers of nine varieties including Scarlet Flame and White Delight. A local product market and temporary booth sales are also being held at the park, which has a 300 yen admission fee for people over 15 and a 500-yen charge to use the parking lot.
