まず、tollを辞書で確認してみると、「（（正式））｛・・・による｝被害、損害、犠牲（者）、死傷者（数）｛from｝」（『ジーニアス英和辞典　第３版』大修館）とありました。そして、death tollという形で、「｛集合的に｝（事故・災害による）死者」（ibid）という意味になります。念のため、ODOでも調べてみると、 ‘the number of deaths resulting from a particular cause’とありました。

爆発する瞬間の動画を見ましたが、音が凄まじく、一瞬で周囲の物を破壊してしまった映像に戦慄がはしりました。(Shou-VR*)
