zip across the horizon
今回は、A30研究室でUG先生とOthelloさんに教わった表現を取り上げたいと思います。今回取り上げる表現は、zip across the horizonです。これは、「《口》急に名が売れる」(『リーダーズ英和辞典 第二版』研究社)という意味になるそうです。古い記事で，かつたった今紹介させて頂いた意味ではないのですが、zip across the horizonが使われている記事がありました。

zipには"informal to go somewhere or do something very quickly"(LDOCE)という意味があり、記事のページに載せてあった動画は見れなかったのですが、クレー射撃のオレンジ色の的が地平線から勢い良く飛び出して来たという光景が想像できます。
あくまでも推測なのですが、「急に名が売れる」という意味もまさにこの記事の様な、的のクレーがまだ見えない状態（無名の状態）から、勢い良く飛び出してくる（急に有名になる）という様な光景から生まれた意味なのでしょうか。(Astroriver)
