MLB テキサス・レンジャーズのダルビッシュ有投手がテキサス州ヒューストンでの第二戦（対アストロ）に先発。あとバッター１人で完全試合を達成するところまで来ましたが、無残にもダルビッシュの股を抜くセンター前ヒットにより、偉業は次の機会に持ち越しとなりました。人生ですね。
TVを横目に仕事をしていましたが、途中から画面に釘付けになってしまいました。今日は午後には甲子園の決勝があるし、集中できない一日になりそうです（済美！がんばれ！校歌が聞きたいよ〜！）
（just）one（or a） 〜 away from ~ingは、定番の表現。アメリカの副大統領に" just a breath away from (being) President"という異名（？）があるのはつとに有名。そもそも副大統領職が置かれたのは大統領に万が一のことがあったときに備えるためで、このjust a breath awayというは大統領の「最後の息」のことを指します。また以前にもjust a click away fromという項を書いていますので、そちらの方も参照してください。

ともかくも、あと一歩のところで完全試合という偉業を逃したDarvishの本年度の初戦。きっとどこかのメディアがこういう言い回しを使うだろうなと思っていたら、案の定、レンジャーズ地元のDallas Newsが使っていました。（UG）

Yu Darvish loses perfect game with two outs in 9th as Rangers beat Astros, 7-0
So close, yet so far.
Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish was one out away from throwing the 24th perfect game in major league history on Tuesday night before Houston shortstop Marwin Gonzalez poked a seeing-eye single up the middle to break up history and end Darvish's night.
Darvish, who had thrown 111 pitches, was immediately pulled by Rangers manager Ron Washington. He finished the night with a career-high 14 strikeouts and just an out shy of his first-ever complete game.
The Rangers led 7-0 at the time on the strength of a late-game surge. After Lance Berkman singled home Texas' first run in the 3rd inning, the Rangers added insurance runs in the 7th, 8th and 9th frames to blow the game open.
But it was Darvish's brush with perfection that stole the focus. Gonzalez's ground ball just snuck under Darvish's glove and between his legs to roll into center field for the Astros' first hit. Darvish, who had bee steely faced all night, broke into a disbelieving grin.
It would have been just the second perfect game in Texas Rangers history. The only other was thrown by Kenny Rogers on July 28, 1994.
