Media giant Time Warner has announced plans to spin off its Time Inc magazine unit into an independent, publicly traded company by the end of the year. Time Inc is the company behind publications including Time, Sports Illustrated, Fortune and People.

今回取り上げるのはspin offです。よく使われる意味としては「遠心力などで振り落す」がありますが、ここでの意味は「親会社が株主に子会社の株を分配すること」です(weblio参照)。なので、「年末までには株を分配して独立の会社にする」ということになります。競争した方がお互いの関係的にもいいのでしょうか。蛇足ですが、spin offには「術開発などの副産物」という意味もありますが、これは最近、スピンオフ・ドラマや映画でみなさんにはなじみのことと存じます。（Sugar）
