dodge a bulletは直訳すると「弾丸を避ける」になりますが、「問題［嫌なこと］を回避する、惨事［悲惨な結果］を免れる」といった比喩で使われることもあるようです。（英辞郎on the WEB)

記事によると１１歳の男の子が亡くなってしまったそうですね。吹雪の中エンジンのつけっぱなしによって一酸化炭素中毒が起こってしまうということをついさっき運転免許の教習で習ったところなので、本当に危険な行為なんだなと実感しました。(Hatahata)
