pay homage to

Director Yoji Yamada, 81, pays homage to Yasujiro Ozu's 1953 film Tokyo Monogatari (Tokyo Story) by telling a story with similar themes in present-day society. The new film portrays the universal image of a family even while it also illustrates family values after the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011.

(英辞朗 on the Web)
homageはrespectよりも堅い表現のようで、LDOCEによるとhomageは”formal: something you do to show respect for someone or something you think is important”とあり、respectは”to admire someone because they have high standards and good qualities such as fairness and honesty”とありました。
(Wiktionary)

(Nat)
