A Rod of Aesculapius

Aesculapius is a revered doctor in Greek mythology.
A rod with a snake coiling around it known as the "Rod of Aesculapius" has long been a symbol of medicine, being widely used in emblems including that of the World Health Organization (WHO). (Koyamamoto)

Yoroku: Finding rejuvenation in the Year of the Snake
Aesculapius is a revered doctor in Greek mythology. A rod with a snake coiling around it known as the "Rod of Aesculapius" has long been a symbol of medicine, being widely used in emblems including that of the World Health Organization (WHO). One theory traces the use of the serpentine image to snakes shedding their skins, as it evokes rejuvenation and immortality, but who knows?
