ご指名質問: milk v

このニュースは私も気になっていて、昨日、The Sunのアプリから速報が届いて仰天しました。さて、ご指名質問を頂きました。お題は次のmilkの意味です。

まずmilkの基本の意味から確認しましょう。他動詞milkは「…から乳をしぼる」「…に授乳する」という意味の他に「…からしぼり取る、搾取する；〈聴衆など〉から反応を（無理に）引き出そうとする；（立場などを）できるだけ利用する」という意味があります(『リーダーズ英和辞典』)。

しかし、どの辞書を参照してもすっきりする定義や訳はありませんでした。そこで少し考えてみると「ラジオ局は「イギリス王室史上最大のイタズラ」という評判から甘い汁を吸おうとしていた」あたりの意味になると思います。
