No. of welfare recipients hits new high for 4th month
The number of people on welfare in Japan broke the record for the fourth consecutive month in August, rising to 2,131,011, the welfare ministry said Wednesday.
The number of households on welfare also reached a new high of 1,555,003, of which the households of those aged 65 or older accounted for more than 40 percent at 673,680, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
The number of households of with injured or sick members came to 298,643, the ministry said.
