stiff upper lip #2/ reserve

The Reservation – review | Stage | The Guardian

The theatre is a good place to nurse a broken heart. Sitting in the dark and hearing stories can help heal the wound. Ellie Harrison takes that idea much further in The Reservation, a one-on-one piece whose title is both a play on hotel reservation and also, perhaps, on the traditional British reserve that requires us to keep a stiff upper lip – even in bereavement.

(Othello)

Sting/ Englishman in New York

If, "Manners maketh man" as someone said
Then he's the hero of the day
It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile
Be yourself no matter what they say

I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York
I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York

Modesty, propriety can lead to notoriety
You could end up as the only one
Gentleness, sobriety are rare in this society
At night a candle's brighter than the sun
