surreal

先ほどのウェイクフィールド投手の記事からもう一つ表現を拾います。（以下，記事より抜粋。）
As for his legacy with the Red Sox, Wakefield is still a little awed by it.
"It's a little surreal for me still," Wakefield said. "Once I get home and start to digest everything, it's pretty cool to have your name up there, but it doesn't change who I am as a person, or a man. I'm grateful I've had the opportunity to achieve a lot of those goals and be high on the list of a lot of those records. Hopefully one day they can be broken, because that's what records are for."
今回の表現はsurrealです。英和辞書には「超現実的な，〔文学〕超現実主義の」という意味が記されていますが，この訳ですと上記の英文にはうまくはまりません。そこでLDOCEを用いて語義を調べてみると，“a situation or experience that is surreal is very strange and difficult understand, like something from a dream”とあります。語義を踏まえると，上記の“It's a little surreal for me still.”は「（レッド・ソックスで築いてきた記録などを）私にはまだ少し夢のようだ（に感じる）。」などと訳すことが可能だと思います。また，語源を見ても「上，超過（sur）real（現実）」となるため，そこから試訳の意味を導くことが出来そうです。英和辞典と英英辞書などを適切に活用して的確な意味を捉えられるようにしていきたいと思います。（GP）
