今回は『プリズン・ブレイク3』から英語表現を拾います。
Michaelと元FBI捜査官Alexは，PanamaのSona刑務所に収監されます。
Alex: Lawman in jail.
Michael: You are exactly where you belong.
Alex: That’s where you’re wrong. You are gonna help me. I will have a court day and you
will be there on the stand, you tell the truth, that you planted this, you set this up.
ここでの注目表現はplantです。こんな簡単な単語plantにも，実はとても多くの意味が隠されているのです。上記のdialogでは，「（だます目的で）…を前もって仕組む，…を隠す」という意味で使われていますね（『ジーニアス英和辞典』第4版，大修館書店）。LDOCEにもinformal to hide stolen or illegal goods in someone’s clothes, bags, room etc in order to make them seem guilty of a crime.とあります。ここからset upよりも，plantの方が悪質なニュアンスが感じられます。（杉内）
