THESE horrific pictures show cruel fishermen slaughtering dozens of dolphins during Japan's infamous annual cull.
Hunters killed at least 59 dolphins, including babies, in hidden slaughter pens.
Butchers wielding huge knives then gutted the mammals on board a barge, say wildlife campaigners Sea Shepherd.
Activists secretly photographed the scene as the dolphins' corpses were dragged along by boats, turning the water red.
The hunters try to conceal the heartbreaking scenes behind blue tarpaulins, but Sea Shepherd monitor Scott West said: "They cannot hide from us. What happens in Taiji is a shameful stain on the reputation of Japan."
The slaughter is allowed by Japan's government. It says killing wild dolphins is "the same as raising pigs for slaughter".
