再び香川選手に関して，今度はJapan Times Onlineの記事から英語表現を拾っていきます。ここ最近の活躍で一躍有名になった香川選手ですが，W杯でも出場の機会はなく，ドイツに渡った当初，ドイツ人サポーターで彼の名を知るものはほとんど皆無でした。

しかし，ところ変われば見方も異なり，Japan Times Onlineのwriterの見解は異なるようです。

辞書にはthin airで「虚空，空（くう）」とあり，disappear [vanish] into thin air（跡形もなく消える）が例文として挙げられていました（『スーパーアンカー英和辞典』第4版，学研教育出版）。記事のappear out of thin airはその逆の意味なので「空から現れる」，言い換えれば「ぽっと出」となります。つまり，名前こそ知れ渡ってはいなかったが，十分なキャリアを持っていたことがKagawa has not simply appeared out of thin airの部分で述べられています。（院生 小山本）
