Tony Blair and a wasted journey

先生が注文されたブレア元首相の回顧録。ぼろくそにたたかれています。せめて,彼を形容する言葉から英語単語でも増やしましょうか。(gacha)
Tony Blair is a master manipulator by his own admission
In one respect, Tony Blair's long awaited memoir cannot be faulted - it's a true reflection of its author. Beguiling, unscrupulous, astonishingly egocentric, disarmingly confessional, casually indiscreet - and at its core devoid of fundamental principles or purpose.
Tony Blair didn't win three consecutive elections in Britain by accident. He was, as he admits in the book, a master manipulator.
And the manipulation continues with this autobiography, which contains just enough admission, just enough self-criticism, to deflect from the empty space at New Labour's heart.
But look again at Mr Blair's decade in power, now seen through his own eyes over 700 self-absorbed pages, and what is amazing is how little there is to show for it.
He had a huge majority, widespread public goodwill, and plenty of taxpayers' money.
He claimed to want to think the unthinkable, to step beyond the old Labour sectarian boundaries and to reform health, welfare and education.
Yet while spending on the NHS more than doubled, there was only a modest improvement in the nation's health. The education budget rocketed - and children's attainments declined. More Britons were dragged into welfare dependency.
